White Noise by Shruti Upadhaya Book Review

Blurb:

“There is another city right under our city and it comes up only when you and I are together. Only you and I know about it and only you and I get to experience it. It keeps itself hidden from the rest of the world. And that is where I live.” He said “And what happens when you’re not with me?” She asked. “I evaporate.” He smiled

The LazyScoop Review:

The main protagonist, who has had a terrible past falls in love with a brooding man, whom she refers to as bearded one. After some lovely conversation and beautiful moments between them, she finds herself getting intensely attracted towards him. But he has something mysterious around his persona. And why does he keeps vanishing somewhere all of a sudden? What’s this special man hiding? Will she able to come out of this emotional flood? Does he love her?

There are some books which do not simply tell the story, they compel you to ponder upon life, love and human emotions. This is one such book. It makes you contemplate about the characters and actually enter their minds. White Noise is absolutely gripping, not because it has a great plot, infact I can sum up the entire plot in a sentence. But the book grips you because it has great narration. The language used is beautiful, rich and classy!

Author Shruti Upadhaya writes the story in first person and you get connected to the characters easily. The story unfolds in three Parts: Me, Her and Him, Narrating perspectives of all the three characters around whom the story revolves. Also, names of no protagonists have been mentioned.

I absolutely loved the short chapters in this book, it subconsciously made me think that I am finishing off the book really soon. And I didn’t want it to come to an end soon, I wanted to flow with the mesmerising narration!

The tone of the writing is slightly Dark, drenched in mystery. I also liked how the author gave some wonderful life lessons through dialogues and thoughts. e.g :

When other people hurt us we will always bounce back, but if we begin to defy our own selves, that’s when we should start to worry because there is no bouncing back from that.

The climax of the book is somewhat shocking, and not what you expect.

LazyScoop Verdict:

White Noise by Shruti Upadhaya not only entertains but also grips you into the narration and makes you ponder about various things in life and love, offers shocking climax along with an overall enjoyable reading experience.

Blurb:

We’re all a little broken, and that’s okay. Or is it? Rick has a medical condition that makes his life different from the rest. But unlike others around him, he sees this not as a curse, but as an opportunity to cherish life and all the bitter-sweet gifts it brings with it. Amidst frequent visits to the doctor, multiple surgeries that risk his life being, and a life that meant surveillance all the time, Rick has to fight for himself each day. But he pulls through, thanks to his family and friend Jacob, who become his pillars of strength. And then, at a time when he is least expecting it, and with someone he meets by accident – love happens. It’s a new feeling for his heart and he is scared to lose it. Will Lisa really understand the goodness of his heart or just walk away? Inside the Heart of Hope is a story of strong will, perseverance and optimism which will make you wonder if sky is really the limit.

What is it about?

Inside the Heart of Hope is a story of Rick who wants to live a normal and exciting life just like every other kid of his age, but can’t because of his heart disorder- Aortic Valve Stenosis. According to which he can’t physically imvolve in a lot of perspiring work, or in other words, put a lot of pressure on his heart. Moreover, He is heartbrokem when his girlfriend leaves him for an unexpected reason. Its the journey of the Author from living a miserable life to a life which he desires to live. It is an Inspiring story of how to overcome your insecurities and problems.

The LazyScoop Review:

The story begins on a sensitive note with a prologue where Rick is recollecting his thoughts about his childhood and how different was it from the rest of the kids of his age. His parents are always protective for him which gradually makes him feel restricted. Though the chapters make you feel sympathetic for the main character Rick, the tone of the book gets a bit monotonous. The initial chapters started to feel dragged.

The story actually gets more engaging when Rick meets Lisa by accident. The incident felt very nicely described with a humourous vibe to it. The story then gets more interesting. I liked the second half of the book more than the first few chapters.

Characterization is decent, not the best. You only feel connected to Rick and Lisa to some extent. Rick’s best friend is good but there’s not much about him in the book except situations where he is always there for Rick and how he always motivates him.

The climax was quite heart touching and felt really satisfactory. This book being an emotional and inpiring story couldn’t have ended any other way.

In the end, it made me feel happy and inspired.

The LazyScoop Verdict:

Inside the Heart of Hope is an inspiring story with decent narration. It stays with you because of the emotional elements it has. The narration is good and the love story in the second half gives lot of reasons to smile. Moreover, what makes it more interesting is it’s Author’s real story in a fictionalised manner.
