LazyScoop Book Review:

Honestly, I don’t really enjoy reading philosophical books much, because they have always seemed quite monotonous to me. But this book has changed my perception completely. It has everything- Philosophy, Emotions, Thrills, Fantasy elements, all coated with a beautiful message.

The narrative style of the author is smooth, language is lucid. As far as story is concerned, it captured me right from the first chapter. And gradually I was immersed in the narration completely.

Each chapter is condensed with engaging story. Writing fantasy imagination is a difficult task because you have to construct it in such a way that it feels believable to the reader. And yes, Dr. Sandeep Jatwa successfully does that. You feel the protagonists experience in the City of Justice as if your own.

The reaction of Shekhar Kapoor after the accident when some strange things happen to him (Don’t want to spoil it for you guys) are described so practically, without going overboard. I wouldn’t reveal much but the Golden Chair, miniature Solar Systems, etc all was narrated so fantastically that I was amazed.

I would’ve liked if Unnati’s character had been given more depth. The relationship of Protagonist and his father was beautifully written. I enjoyed reading Shekhar and Kailash’s story and the angle to which it leads.

This book reminds us how our every small actions impact others. How our ego, ill behaviour, selfishness can destroy someone’s feelings, or even sometimes life.

The LazyScoop Verdict:

This book has a lot to learn from, and for everyone. And yes, it’s much better than any love story, or thrillers which came recently. The message which this story brings is beautiful. The best thing about this book is that you get emotionally connected to it. It’s gripping and there’s not even one dull moment in the book! There is a selfish shekhar kapoor in each one of us, which has to change into a loving and caring one. This book deserves to be a bestseller!

But unlike others around him, he sees this not as a curse, but as an opportunity to cherish life and all the bitter-sweet gifts it brings with it. Amidst frequent visits to the doctor, multiple surgeries that risk his life being, and a life that meant surveillance all the time, Rick has to fight for himself each day. But he pulls through, thanks to his family and friend Jacob, who become his pillars of strength. And then, at a time when he is least expecting it, and with someone he meets by accident – love happens. It’s a new feeling for his heart and he is scared to lose it. Will Lisa really understand the goodness of his heart or just walk away? Inside the Heart of Hope is a story of strong will, perseverance and optimism which will make you wonder if sky is really the limit.

What is it about?

Inside the Heart of Hope is a story of Rick who wants to live a normal and exciting life just like every other kid of his age, but can’t because of his heart disorder- Aortic Valve Stenosis. According to which he can’t physically imvolve in a lot of perspiring work, or in other words, put a lot of pressure on his heart. Moreover, He is heartbrokem when his girlfriend leaves him for an unexpected reason. Its the journey of the Author from living a miserable life to a life which he desires to live. It is an Inspiring story of how to overcome your insecurities and problems.

The LazyScoop Review:

The story begins on a sensitive note with a prologue where Rick is recollecting his thoughts about his childhood and how different was it from the rest of the kids of his age. His parents are always protective for him which gradually makes him feel restricted. Though the chapters make you feel sympathetic for the main character Rick, the tone of the book gets a bit monotonous. The initial chapters started to feel dragged.

The story actually gets more engaging when Rick meets Lisa by accident. The incident felt very nicely described with a humourous vibe to it. The story then gets more interesting. I liked the second half of the book more than the first few chapters.

Characterization is decent, not the best. You only feel connected to Rick and Lisa to some extent. Rick’s best friend is good but there’s not much about him in the book except situations where he is always there for Rick and how he always motivates him.

The climax was quite heart touching and felt really satisfactory. This book being an emotional and inpiring story couldn’t have ended any other way.

In the end, it made me feel happy and inspired.

The LazyScoop Verdict:

Inside the Heart of Hope is an inspiring story with decent narration. It stays with you because of the emotional elements it has. The narration is good and the love story in the second half gives lot of reasons to smile. Moreover, what makes it more interesting is it’s Author’s real story in a fictionalised manner.

What is it about?

White Smoke: The Missing Shimla Girl is a story of Virat, A teenager with a troubled childhood, who one day discovers a picture of a beautiful girl in one of the books from Boarding School’s Library. His relationship with Payal, is on the verge of an end. And there is some mysterious attraction to the picture he has found.

Is there any relation between the picture and the murders? Who is the murderer? What is his motive? Will Virat come out of his obsession with the girl in the picture? Who is she by the way? Find the answers in the book!

LazyScoop Review:

Writer Nikhil Mahajan writes a story which is gripping, short, edgy and page turner. Writing is crisp, it had a certain dark tone to it which made it intriguing. Narration flows smoothly with case reports giving a subconscious authenticity to the case Inspector Mathur was handling! Though the case reports were coming up more often in between chapters and later they got boring to be read, they were hurdles in the breezy narration.

In one of the incidents portrayed in the book, a character slaps his girlfriend, after he announces a break up and she tries to know the reason, it didn’t seem morally correct to me. Also Virat being obsessed about just a picture he finds in a book doesn’t seem practical, but having said that, I think its fiction, so getting some creative liberty isn’t wrong as far as the overall book is entertaining.

The three dimensional aspect of the story i.e Virat and Payal, Mahi and Arjun, Inspector Mathur and how all the characters are interlinked was very creative of the author, and was amazing to read. Some of the erotic scenes are written in a very nice way without going overboard or cheap.

The climax was chilling and raised many questions.

LazyScoop Verdict:

White Smoke: The Missing Shimla Girl is a compelling read with lot of twists and turns and interesting plot. It is a story of Love, Romance, Betrayal, and Revenge. It’s not the best books to be read in thrillers, but it’s definitely a good one. And the reader would wait for its sequel to find answers to some questions which the story raises.

What is it that makes her break all her ties ? Walk into Tamanna’s shoes to experience her transformation to Black Coffee- Dark and Strong.

What is it about?

Black Coffee is a story of a girl named Tamannah who has big dreams. Dreams such as marrying the love of her life, becoming a Chartered Accountant. But destiny has other plans for her and she gets married to Sarthak. Can first love be forgotten so easily? What happens when it appears again after few years, things are surely to be different then, especially if you are married. Join Tamannah in her journey of finding herself, and her ambitions.

LazyScoop Review:

The book started of well with an interesting prologue where Tamannah is asking for a black coffee and explaining how her personality is changed over the years due to whatever she has gone through. How she has become strong and dark, thus building the reader’s expectation that the story which is going to unfold later is going to be moving, and totally inspiring.

But,

“Expectations are root cause of hurt.” they say, and that’s pretty much what happened when I read this book till the end. Maybe expected it to be really amazing, so I was disappointed. Though, the story isn’t bad. Actually story is average, short and simple. But it totally lacks depth, the writer says that the incidents happened, but actually doesn’t potray it.

E.g – ‘We shared a different chemistry altogether, and with time, our friendship was also blossoming and flourishing’ is what is written about a character in the book. But, how that chemistry was different? How was their frienship blossoming isn’t potrayed in the book. Which makes the narrative shallow.

If the story had been written with more depth and characterization, it would have really connected well with the reader. I wouldn’t have minded if the book was a thick one with profundity.

The initial story of how Raj and Tamannah meet for the first time is written well and was interesting to read. In the ending chapters, I felt Tamannah’s character untrustworthy. No matter how much love you’ve got for your first love, you can’t cheat your husband and claim to be strong. The writing loses it’s grip after few chapters.

LazyScoop Verdict:

Black Coffee is a book which should be read with open mind and without expecting any motivational content, it’s a good one time read which is fast paced and can be a decent read while travelling.

The Highway Man by J. Alchem Review.

Author: J. Alchem

Publication date: 12th May, 2017

Length: 68 Pages

What is it about?

The whole world is upside down. People are walking in the sky with the ground moving above their heads. And the reason is simple; a bestselling author is in love. But why the whole world is inverted? What’s so special about this love? Or worse?

A man throws his masculine brain and heart aside and fixes a feminine one there. And the reason is simple; he wants to live the life of his lover, for 24 hours. But why does he want to do that? What’s the need?

A man, neatly dressed in a suit, is playing with his bowler hat, on a highway at dawn. And the reason is simple; he needs a lift. But why does he need a lift? What’s his purpose?

LazyScoop Review:
The Highway man is a collection of beautiful, and amazing stories. Beautiful because the writer has written it in an enticing way. The language, the words, overall naration flows smoothly. I liked the variety of tales, each one is of a different genre. First one is intriguing, and unexpected Twist. Second one, Is Romantic and the Third one is Philosophical.
The book has three short stories titled Catherine, Sidzy for a day, and The Highway Man which is also the title of the book. Read on to know what I think about each of the story.

Catherine
:

This is a story of Dr.Rusenvelt, Who encounters a mysterious case one day about his favourite author. What happens when a Writer falls in love with a fictional character of his own book? The narration of the story is smooth and flowy and has a shocking climax to it. I really loved the concept of this story.

Sidzy, for a day:

This is a perfect romantic story about Jihan and Sidzy. They both are characters which anyone on this planet would love to have in their life. Sidzy is a charming girl who doesn’t take the love shown on her for granted, especially because of her past. Jihaan is a man, who knows how to care and love his girl. It’s a story which surely will touch the romantic chords of the readers.

The Highway Man

This story is full of twists. A man who lost his wife, his son who hasn’t been able to come out of trauma. Until, a man comes in their life to change it completely. I am not going to say the protagonist’s name, that’s also a twist here. This definitely is the best story among the three, its emotional and engaging. Its sprinkled with some philosophy as well, which would definitely stay with you after you finish the book.

LazyScoop Verdict:

Overall The Highway man is an interesting book with engaging stories written with heartfelt emotions. Read it if you like reading short stories and want to have a quick one hour read.
