This collection of tales about the lives and loves of five women traces their long, eventful journeys. Meet Pooja, a teenager forced into the flesh trade but determined to escape and get justice. Shrawani who dreams of becoming a bureaucrat despite all the trials life throws her way. Avni who is torn between her childhood friend and her brand-new boyfriend. Harsha who is trapped in a loveless arranged marriage while still being haunted by thoughts of her forsaken lover. Geshna who falls head over heels for a high school sweetheart only to find her own life shrinking to accommodate his. These stories are about the odds stacked against these women in their paths to love and success, and their hope that the next turn that they make will be the one that leads them to the happiness they are longing for.

The LazyScoop Review:

The Secret sins and Struggle is an anthology of five stories of five strong women. The stories explore the conflicts which the women have to face in our society and how these female protagonists overcome those problems.

I really enjoyed reading each story. I liked how every story has a different plot, there is no monotony. The writing style is impressive. Stories grip you and you feel the urge to know what’s the going to happen next.

I also observed that each story was relatable, it’s like you know women go through those problems in our society, nothing seemed over the top.

Here’s some glipmse about what the stories are about:

1. Brothel to Assembly:

This is the first story from the book and it was extremely impactful. It was one of the most touching tales I’ve read. Pooja’s misery of falling into sex trade and how she comes out of it is what this story is about. By the end, you ponder upon the character, because she seems very strong.

2. Love, Corporate and Custody:

This story is about an ambitious girl, Geshna. She gives up her aspirations for the love of her life, Nihal. But Nihal turns out to be a cheat. Will she realise his true colours? How will she react then? There’s one more character named Aman who truly loves Geshna, but never confessed it. Will he? This story was simple but impressive.

3. Sin:

Sin is a story of Harsha who gets trapped in an unwanted marriage, and lives a depressed life. She couldn’t marry her love, because of her family’s choice. Will she go after her true love after marriage? What will be the consequences?

I enjoyed reading this tale because it was complex in nature. Author kamini Kusum handled it brilliantly and I was glued to the narration.

4. Madam Bureaucrat:

Shrawani aspired to become a Bureaucrat, but it’s not easy for her. Her ambiguous love life builds up new hurdles for her. I liked the climax of this story, I felt happy and satisfied with it.

5. The Rave Party Night:

Avni is in love with a guy named Jeevak, who’s only intention is to trap her into the clench of his fake love for his enjoyment. When she gets to know this from Avni, she’s heartbroken. Will she be able to teach him a lesson?

This story was gripping and threw light on pretentious love which is quite relevant. I was connected to Avni’s character quite instantly.

Overall, all stories have one thing common, they all have strong female characters, who get back to the unjust problems and emerge victorious. Be it Pooja, Shrawani, Geshna, Harsha or Avni.

The LazyScoop Verdict:

Secret Sins and Struggle in the end leaves you with great impact and you feel inspired. Doesn’t matter if you are male or female, you feel victorious at the end of each story. The narration is smooth. Each story grips you with interesting plot and amazing climax.
